Feliway Spray
It consists of synthetic pheromones created to mimic the facial pheromones naturally produced by cats to mark their territory which is familiar and safe as well as those produced by nursing cats to help their kittens feel safe and secure and create a harmonious bond between them.
Indications
The spray is useful in the house to control vertical scratching and urine marking as well as diminish the stress felt by cats during car rides, boarding and visits to the veterinarian.
Manual
Shake the bottle and apply at a distance of approximately 20 cm (8inches) from the area to be sprayed while holding the bottle upright.
For the carrier or cage: Spray one time each corner, two times the ceiling and two times the floor at least 15 minutes before introducing the cat. For trips exceeding 4-5 hours, spraying should be repeated (or if the effect seems to have diminished) after removing the cat from the cage and waiting 15 minutes to let the excipient contained in the product to evaporate.
To reduce urine marking: You must first clean all marked areas thoroughly with a cleaning solution that does not contain ammonium (ex a solution of water and vinegar containing 1volume of water for two volumes of vinegar). Next, spray Feliway once a day on soiled surfaces (bedding, furniture, etc.) or prominent objects that may attract him (furniture corners, chairs, doors, etc.). Wait 15 minutes to let the excipient contained in the product evaporate before reintroducing the cat into the treated area. When the cat rubs his head on the surfaces (in order to deposit his own pheromones), it will be possible to stop using Feliway. If not, Feliway should be used for a month.
To prevent urine marking (new home, new environment, difficult or stressful situation): Spray Feliway once a day directly on prominent objects which may attract the cat (furniture corners, chairs, doors, etc.) and wait 15 minutes to let the excipient contained in the product evaporate before reintroducing the cat into the treated area. If the cat has a history of urine marking, we can use the Feliway Diffuser in combination with the Feliway spray.
To prevent or control vertical scratching: spray 6 shots of Feliway once a day on all the scratched surfaces for 3-4 weeks. After each treatment, wait 15 minutes to let the excipient contained in the product evaporate before introducing the cat into the treated area. Offer him another solution in the area (ex: scratching post with catnip placed at the base) so he can sharpen his claws.
Recommendation
To obtain optimum results, the spray and diffuser can be used collectively. The diffuser must be replaced after 6 months of use or once the refill has been changed 6 times.
Caution
Keep out of the reach of children. Do not install the diffuser under an electrical appliance, piece of furniture or object protruding from the wall. It is recommended to first test the Feliway spray on a hidden corner to ensure that it does not leave any stains or marks. The Feliway spray should not be applied directly on animals or near their face. Feliway is not indicated in cases of open aggression between cats or towards the owner, nor to treat signs unrelated to stress. The duration of use of Feliway should be adjusted in function with the cause or nature of the source of stress and with the length of behavioral therapy or changes in the environment. Consult product insert for more ample information.
